Products and Innovations: Inspirations for the Commercial Sector

Latest Products from Exhibitors at the imm cologne 2014 for Furnishing Hotels, Offices, Bars, and Restaurants

The upcoming imm cologne will present new trends in furnishings from January 13th to 19th, 2014, along with multifaceted inspirations for the commercial sector. Numerous exhibitors will display market-ready innovations for furnishing hotels, restaurants, shops, and other properties. The trade fair offers a wide variety of furnishings for all planners who are looking for new impulses and experienced partners for their construction and interior projects. In the run-up to imm cologne 2014, here is an overview of innovations and trends for commercial property with a first selection of the latest products from exhibitors:

High-Back: Sofa from Cane-line
The Danish manufacturer Cane-line is offering a high-back sofa that expands the successful "Diamond" outdoor furniture collection for furnishing hotels and businesses. The new model can be used as a room divider and as wind protection to create a screened setting and to separate exterior and interior spaces. For exterior use, the high-back sofa has maintenance-free and water-resistant pillows. The Danish design pair Foersom &Hiort-Lorenzen is behind the design of the "Diamond" series. As with the other furniture in the collection, both designers were inspired by polished diamond surfaces for the sofa's sculpturally shaped contours.

Variable: Chair and Bench from Domitalia
The Italian design label Domitalia's chair "Coquille" offers various possibilities for an individual configuration. Designed by the designers Folco Orlandini und Andrea Radice, the arrangement of seat and frame as well as their material and vivid colours can be varied in different combinations. Thus, the shell-shaped seat is available both in polyurethane and with leather or fabric covers. The frame is likewise offered in different designs. While the individual model is especially suited for seating in offices and conference rooms, "Coquille" also comes in an extended seat variation as a bench for waiting areas.

Update: Lounge Chair from Expormim
The Spanish manufacturer Expormim has returned to its roots with the "Fontal" chair designed by Oscar Tusquets Blanca. Corresponding to the Spanish designation for "source," the company has gone back to its more than 40-year tradition of working with rattan. As a result, the traditional material has undergone a design update with new manufacturing technology. The joining together of the legs of the frame gives the chair a special stability and lends it lighter contours compared to other rattan chairs. A low lounge chair has now been added to the existing collection.

Flow: Rocking Stool from ONGO
The stool ONGO from the manufacturer of the same name invites you to an active and healthy sitting: the ergonomic design of the stool with its curved base responds to any shift in weight, thus activating the body's musculature and promoting good health. Movement can be playfully integrated into the daily office routine, especially for white-collar workers. The design of the new special edition ONGO®Rhei visually draws on this thought: the depiction of contemplative movement. Designed by Regina Dahmen-Ingenhoven and Beate Steil, the designer furniture piece is intended to encourage relaxed flow.

Comfortable: Lounge Furniture from Weishäupl
The name "Chill" of the current furniture programme from Weishäupl is to be taken literally: the cubically distinctive elements with their hand-woven and waterproof coverings invite you to unwind. A filling made of styrofoam balls, "tamed" in tear-proof ticking, guarantees low net weight with a high degree of sitting and lying comfort. The formally reduced cushions can thus be used as individual furniture pieces or quickly grouped into seating ensembles, for example in commercial and public areas. One possible complement to the cushion elements are the weatherproof side tables from Weishäupl made from solid teak.

Nominated: Wire Chair from Wilde+Spieth
The wire chair "CU!“ from Wilde+Spieth made it onto the shortlist of this year's FX International Design Awards that will be given out on November 27th in London. Inspired by Asiatic craftsmanship, the Indian newcomer Avinash Shende designed the chair using bent wire. What is unusual is the fact the wire chair is made completely from one piece, which lends it an especially high degree of stability. By virtue of the weather-resistant material, minimal target surface for wind, and possibility for stacking, the chair is especially suited for terraces or cafés. The wire furniture is available in white, silver, red, blue, and yellow.
